Kurai - A Gift for Tatchit

Happy Birthday !!!

This is her character Kurai, recreated in 3D to the best of my ability.

This was a special challenge for me. Tatchit's art is absolutely amazing, and when I saw the little birthday notification I knew I had to do something. I had created a 3D custom character only once before, so making this was going to be extra hard.
Instead of rendering the image and then adding the details like the eyes and markings in photoshop later, I did the opposite. I took the original black map for an anubis figure, painted it white, added the Eclipse to the shoulder, painted the eyes and face, and applied the newly painted skin to the 3D figure. Then I did the posing, lighting, and created the hair. The hair took several hours of combing (yes, literally combing with my tablet and pen) to get it like this. Its not perfect, but its pretty close. Then a 15 minute render and final trip through photoshop to fix mistakes and polish the image.

There are a few mistakes though.
I know the ears are off, this model doesnt have very flexible ears. The hair is a bit short and not as spikey. He's also missing a tail and a leather collar. I dont know how to make the collar using the programs I have, and I was afraid to make more hair (the program has a tendency to crash when there's a lot of hair. Im happy it didnt crash doing the head).

But despite all of that I think it came out good.
